چکیده

The most widely used MR angiographic imaging techniques can be categorized as phase contrast, time-of-flight, or contrast-enhanced methods. The basic physical principles of each of these techniques are described briefly below. Phase contrast techniques derive contrast between flowing blood and stationary tissues by manipulating the phase of the magnetization, such that the phase of the magnetization from the stationary spins is zero and the phase of the magnetization from the moving spins is non-zero. The phase is a measure of how far the magnetization precess from the time it is tipped into the transverse plane until the time it is detected. The data acquired with phase contrast techniques can be processed to produce phase difference, complex difference, and magnitude images. In phase difference images, the signal is linearly proportional to the velocity of the spins-faster moving spins give rise to a larger signal, and spins moving in one direction are assigned a bright (white) signal, whereas spins moving in the opposite direction are assigned a dark (black) signal. Thus, the vascular anatomy can be assessed, and the speed and direction of the blood flow can be qualitatively determined, by observing the phase

Head and neck paragangliomas: improved tumor detection using contrast-enhanced 3D time-of-flight MR angiography as compared with fat-suppressed MR imaging techniques.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE MR imaging techniques have proved their efficacy in imaging the head and neck region. In this study, we compared T1-weighted, dual T2-weighted, and fat-suppressed MR imaging and unenhanced and contrast-enhanced 3D time-of-flight MR angiography sequences for detection of head and neck paragangliomas. METHODS Thirty-one patients with 70 paragangliomas were examined. Four ...

A pitfall in detection of intracranial unruptured aneurysms on three-dimensional phase-contrast MR angiography.

We report three cases of intracranial unruptured aneurysm evaluated with MR angiography using both three-dimensional time-of-flight and three-dimensional phase-contrast techniques. It has been said that the phase-contrast technique has advantages over the time-of-flight technique in the detection of intracranial aneurysms. However, in our three cases, three-dimensional time-of-flight MR angiogr...

Quantification of blood-brain-barrier permeability dysregulation and inflammatory activity in MS lesions by dynamic-contrast enhanced MR imaging

Objective: Measurement of blood-brain permeability dysfunction in active and chronic MS lesions with T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI to show variation in inflammatory activity Background: blood-brain-barrier perfusion characterization impaired in MS as some studies have shown recently buta comparison between perfusion parameters in contrast-enhanced and non-enhanced lesions not have ...

Nonenhanced MR angiography.

While nonenhanced magnetic resonance (MR) angiographic methods have been available since the earliest days of MR imaging, prolonged acquisition times and image artifacts have generally limited their use in favor of gadolinium-enhanced MR angiographic techniques. However, the combination of recent technical advances and new concerns about the safety of gadolinium-based contrast agents has spurre...
